Lee's Somco Named Gulf South Freshman of the Year

.After a break out season for the Lee University softball team, Lady Flames freshman Hailey Somco was named Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Year as the announced by the league on Thursday.

She has been a true utility player. She has been an outfielder, catcher, and a designated player for Lee. She had 45 hits with a .295 batting average. She has over 20 extra base hits with 16 doubles and six home runs and one triple. She also has 20 stolen bases and has been walked 15 times. Simco finished the season ranked fifth among GSC leaders with 16 doubles.

Coach Emily Russell was proud of Simco's accomplishment.
"Hailey had a tremendous freshman year. She is very versatile and was able to contribute in a few different positions. She added speed at the top of the lineup and aggressive base running. We have a talented freshmen class and they will impact the program for the next three seasons."
