Soddy Daisy got the best of McMinn Central’s men’s soccer team last night for a senior night thriller. The Soddy Daisy Trojans faced the McMinn Central Chargers at home as the season begins to wrap up. The game was not a give away by any means. The Chargers put up a good fight but ultimately lost 1-0.
Soddy Daisy began the night honoring their seniors: Cam Randolph, Oscar Gomez, Zach Mance, Evan Aslinger, David Lopez, and Noah Bailey. These players played for them all four years and put in so much work off and on the field. The school held a ceremony honoring all their contributions and wishing them good luck in the future. Congratulations to all these seniors.
The Trojans played with a 4-4-2 formation that seemed to be more fluid in how they shifted the formation around the field. Their biggest strength was in their defensive ability to keep the Chargers out of the box. The Chargers played with a flat 4-4-2 formation that consistently played with a strong offense.
The first half went back and forth with no result for several minutes. Soddy Daisy held the ball most of the half which resulted in multiple chances. Unfortunately, they were unlucky to find anything that worked for them when it came to finishing. Then, with only a minute left in the half, Soddy Daisy scored the only goal of the game. With a perfect build up play from the back, the Trojans’ David Lopez played a ground ball in the box to Paxton Steele. Steele hit It first time and put the Trojans up for good.
The rest of the game went scoreless. Soddy Daisy had several great chances that did not amount to anything for them. McMinn, despite being down, moved some players around and pressed high in hopes of finding the equalizer. They had no luck either and the game ended 1-0. Soddy Daisy will go on to play East Ridge next week for their final game of the season.
