Marci Hobbs
Marci (Lamar) Thompson Hobbs, peacefully went home to her Lord on April 30, 2024, at The Alexian Village in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Marci is survived by her children: Brenda (Stewart) Zane, Julie (David) Todd, Tommy (Jennifer) Hobbs, George Hobbs; her grandchildren: Katie Zane Brannon, Amy Zane Smith, Gracie Zane Jolly, Hannah Todd Kochenberger, Courtney Todd Root, Josiah Todd, Samuel Todd, Lydia Todd Russell, Zak Hobbs, Rachael Hobbs, Owen Honroth, 18 great-grandchildren and a sister, Kathie Thompson Wann. She was predeceased by her husband, Danny Hobbs, a grandson, Adam Zane, her parents, George and Mary Lamar Thompson, and her aunts, Katherine Reynolds and Rose Dunn.
Marci (Lamar) Thompson Hobbs was born in Chattanooga, Tn., on May 6, 1935, and spent a large part of her life there. She attended Chattanooga High School, graduating in 1953 followed by a year at UTC before marrying her high school sweetheart, Thomas Daniel (Danny) Hobbs. She had varied interesting work experiences before she and Danny moved to Atlanta, after their children were grown. She enjoyed employment at Northside Community Church as secretary for several years. Upon her retirement in 2002, they built a lake house in Hartwell, Ga., and had happy years there, attending Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. Widowed in 2009, Marci became very active at Impact Church and was a greeter—to warmly welcome and hug people as they arrived. She taught crochet classes in the local women’s prison, and offered Bible studies, developing strong friendships with the girls. She saw lives transformed by Jesus, and kept in touch with them after they left. She was very hospitable. She began to invite people into her home for dinner—to hopefully nurture new friendships for them as well as hosting various small groups from church.
She would not want any clubs or accomplishments to be mentioned here. The essence of her life was loving her family and enjoying every opportunity to be with them (especially vacations at Jekyll Island, Ga.) and loving people. Her relationship with Jesus Christ was the main thrust of her life and it affected everything she did. That included opening her home at times to young friends who had nowhere to go. She invested her life in others, especially those no one else noticed. Her encouragement and love helped them grow as people. Her friends were of all ages, races, social status, and background.
Marci’s life message was: “Jesus loves you, no matter who you are or what you have done with a love greater than you could ever dream or imagine.” Her desire was that Jesus would show His love to others through her. On April 30th, she experienced a welcome with more love and acceptance than SHE ever dreamed, as she met her Savior face to face.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on June 1, at Impact Church in her beloved Hartwell, Ga. (764 Benson Street, Hartwell 30643).
